Works as Expected
By acting as others expect you to, you make their lives a lot easier. If you do a little bit more than that, they will be over the roof! It’s also a lot harder to maintain bad habits this way; no one expects you to be addicted to something which hurts you, that would be foolish. This approach is difficult to implement at first, with the boundaries we like to put up around ourselves called comfort zones.
These are also a reason for difficulties in relationships. Statements based on personal taste, like “I don’t want it that way” or “That’s not what I like” will make things harder for everyone involved. Children can at times be an extreme example of this, but this doesn’t go away with adulthood. So maybe next time, think about what it is people would like you to do. The results may surprise you.
